The wind causes damage in Orihuela and outdoor activities were suspended
The wind is the protagonist of the day this Friday, reaching gusts of 55 km/h in the center of Orihuela and more than 80 km/h in the outskirts.
These gusts have caused a palm tree to fall on the terrace of Bar La Morenica, near the Palmeral.
Fortunately, no one was sitting at the time and there is no personal injury to be regretted. The Orihuela Local Police have blocked traffic on Dr García Rogel street to prevent any incident, although residents will be allowed to access their homes and school transport when the students leave the school. the centers located in the Palmeral.
This morning another palm tree has also fallen behind the Bernardo Ruiz pavilion without causing material or personal damage and on Ramón Sijé street the wind has also pushed a fence from a plot of land that has invaded the road.
The Department of Emergencies has decreed the suspension of all outdoor activities and the practice of sports in the Palmeral sports center and in the Bernardo Ruiz pavilion due to the yellow level wind risk warning issued by 112. Likewise, they have been closed the Gabriel Miró and Severo Ochoa roundabout parks to avoid any incident. It is also prohibited to carry out any burning of agricultural residues. These measures will be reviewed in case the wind subsides.
A total of 29 wind interventions have been attended in the province of Alicante. Of these, in Orihuela, action has been taken in five cases and there are also other interventions in Torrevieja. As the Provincial Consortium of Alicante Firefighters has shared, cases of falling trees or branches, detachment of rubble or pieces of cornices, awnings of private homes and uralite roofs with a risk of detachment have been dealt with.
Ex-husband ordered to pay over €200,000 to former wife for domestic labour
A court in Andalusia has ordered a man to pay his ex-wife more than €200,000 for 25 years of unpaid domestic labour.
Judges ruled that the womans former husban would pay €204,624.86 – after calculating her annual minimum wage for the period where she gave up her career to raise their two children and the household.
The divorce agreement was based on what each party had earned whilst married, with initially the wife recieveing nothing from the split.
A monthly childcare allowance will also be required to be paid whilst the children are under the ages of 18.
The curious orchard façade of a house in Rojales causes a sensation
In recent weeks, a house located at Calle Calvario Viejo, 35 has caused a sensation in the municipality of Rojales.
The Department of Culture of the Rojales City Council has embellished the façade of this house and has painted different scenes dedicated to the men and women of the orchard.
In the composition a cat and a girl appear leaning out of the windows on the second floor and on the ground floor we find a woman at the entrance door of the house and, by her side, a window with some flowers and a vase.
Outside there is a man sitting on a chair while working with esparto grass.
It is not the only initiative that aims to beautify facades of the municipality, a few days ago a mural was also inaugurated on Cuevas del Rodeo street, dedicated to the family of flamenco artists Antonio Fernández (guitarist), Encarnación Fernández (singer) and Antonio Muñoz Fernandez (guitarist).
A family linked to the origins of this street and, currently, with a presence in cultural events related to the Caves and the Cante de las Minas de la Unión International Festival.
Minute of silence and half flags for the death of the young geologist from Almoradí in the Súria mine
In the Almoradí Town Hall, the flags are flying at half mast and that will be the case for the next few days until the funeral of the young geologist from Almoradi who died in a mine in Súria, indicated the mayoress of the municipality, María Gómez, moments before the minute of silence that was has convened this noon in the Plaza de la Constitución. The mayoress has expressed her condolences to the entire family in these difficult times and she has made herself available to them for any procedure she has to carry out in these difficult circumstances.

Broken has been shown the geologist Joaquín Martínez Campillo from Oriolan, delegate of the College of Geologists of Spain in the Valencian Community, partner and friend of Victoriano.
“I break. We are very shocked. We know that our profession is very risky in certain specialties such as mining, but you don’t expect three colleagues to lose their lives in these harsh conditions in a mine”, stated Martínez Campillo.
“Life takes the best. A few days ago I was talking to him and he was very excited, he had fulfilled a dream because he was doing field work”, explained Martínez Campillo.
