FORMER REGIONAL PRESIDENT OF MURCIA JAILED FOR CORRUPTION

The former PP regional president of Murcia – Pedro Antonio Sánchez – has been jailed for three years for his involvement in the ‘Auditorio case’.

Sanchez was found guilty of corruption and malfeasance in connection to the construction of an auditorium in the town of Puerto Lumbreras, where he was mayor.

He was found guilty of rigging the bidding process, so that architect Martin Lejarraga won the bid.

Alongside the prison sentence, Mr. Sanchez was banned from holiding public office for 17 years and 3 months, and ordered to pay a fine of €3,600.

The city hall secretary and the architect were also banned from working in the public sector for 15-years.

INDUSTRIAL OUTPUT FALLS TO 0.4% IN JANUARY – INE

Spanish industrial output fell 0.4% in January year-on-year figures – thats according to data released by the national statistics institute – INE – yesterday.

The latest data comes after figures for December were revised upwards by a percentage point from 0.6% to 0.7%.

It’s the first time since October 2021 since the figures have moved into a negative number.

COALITION PARTNERS SLOG OUT DEBATE OVER AMENDMENTS TO “ONLY YES MEANS YES” LAW

Coalition partners PSOE and Podemos have issued harsh words to each other as amendments to the “Only Yes Means Yes” laws were debated in the Congress of Deputies yesterday.

In what is being seen as a moment of high political risk for the government, the PSOE amendments to the legislation is expected to pass, with the support of opposition parties PP and Ciudadanos.

However Podemos and other parties who have lent their support to the government are understood to be voting against the changes, due to a lack of approval from the Podemos parliamentary leader and Minister of Equality – Irene Montero.

OUPLE JAILED FOR WINE THEFTS VALUED AT OVER €1.6 MILLION

A former Mexican beauty queen and her partner have been jailed in Cáceres for four years for stealing wine worth an estimated €1.6m.

The couple were arrested after a stay at a luxury hotel in the city, where 45 bottles of fine and vintage wines were stolen from the hotels Michellin starred restaurant.

Staff at the Atrio hotel noticed the wines were missing from the establishments wine cellar, with a staff key card also taken.

One of the bottles – a 19th Century vintage – was reported to have been worth €350,000.

Alongside their jail terms, the couple will have to pay €750,000 in damages.
