The Costa Blanca will be a preferred destination for golf tourism for lAGTO operators in 2020
• Carlos Mazón stresses the importance of continuing to bet on events of marked tourist interest to diversify the offer and work with certain profiles of customers

05-11-19.- The President of the Provincial Council of Alicante, Carlos Mazón, met this morning, within the framework of the World Travel Market in London, with the executive director of the International Association of Golf Operators, Peter Walton, to position the province Alicante as a preferred destination for this sport in 2020.

The meeting concluded with an important agreement that is realized in the commitment of IAGTO to incorporate the associated golf courses of the province in its new seal of quality. In addition, El Patronato Costa Blanca has also joined with the association of the realization of a Fam Trip with tour operators, to which will be added a parallel press trip with specialized golf media, as well as other actions aimed at enhancing the province as a preferred golf destination for agents from all over the world.

The director of the Provincial Tourism Board, José Mancebo, the Generalitat’s General Director of Tourism, Herick Campos, the manager of the Association of Golf Courses of Costa Blanca and Valencian Community, Angel, Llopes, and the head of the Marketing and Communication area of the Valencian Office of Turisme, Carmen Sahuquillo.
Carlos Mazón has stated that this fair “not only allows us to work with the main tourist agents of the British market, but also to close important agreements for the province with a view to the coming season and with the expectation of deseasonalizing the arrival of our potential tourists.”

In this sense, the president has advanced that this morning “we have reached a productive agreement with the largest international association of golf operators in order to position our courses as the preferred destination of this sport. We continue to bet on events of marked tourist interest, conducive to diversify the offer and work with a very specific profile of customer”.

For his part, Peter Walton has emphasized that the Costa Blanca Golf Course Association is the most important at European level, which is why this strategy, for the next financial year, is presented with a desire for continuity. The objective of the Costa Blanca association is to mainly attract golfers from Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

In this regard, Mazón has pointed out that the central European market is also “important for us because we believe that we have a great capacity for growth and in this area we will take our steps in the coming months”.


This entity was created in 1997 and currently integrates nearly 3,000 golf operators, resorts, hotels, golf courses, receptive operators, airlines and media from a hundred countries. IAGTO agents control more than 87% of golf holiday packages sold worldwide, with a turnover of 2.1 billion euros per year.
Over the past decade, this association has closed golf tourism strategies for more than 30 countries and offered advice to other regions in this area.
