Urgent call for volunteers in second Orihuela Costa beach clean-up

BUILDING on the success of last Tuesday’s ‘Plastic Pick-Up’ at Cala Estaca on the Orihuela Costa, local councillors are asking the same again from caring expats.

Today’s pick-up is at 10:30 at the Playa de la Glea beach, where staff will give out gloves and refuse bags to help clear the beach of plastic and rubbish washed up after recent storms.

Big Radio Spain went along last week and we were amazed at the turnout, with roughly FIFTY Brits and Irish expats showing a great example and mucking in.

GREAT ATMOSPHERE: Some of the 50 or so British & Irish expats that mucked in.

We spoke with Sonia Huertas, who runs the Department of International Residents for Orihuela council, who was delighted with the turnout.

“We didn’t expect this many people, we have run out of complimentary drinks bottles!”

With so much help, local beaches should be in fine shape for the forthcoming summer season – as long as we don’t have any more Storm Glorias!
